Here is another update folks.

Martin has been busying himself away with the car, so things are moving forwards. Last time I was there I brought home with me the fuel rail feed pipe with a view of researching an easy way to measure the fuel pressure, most people do this using a spare port on an aftermarket regulator however for now I am keeping the stock item so needed a different solution.

Various options have been proposed of tapping a hole in the top of the banjo bolt on the fuel filter or fitting a double banjo bolt to the fuel filter, I found the parts in the correct threads very difficult to come by.

In the end I decided to pop down to Think Automotive in Isleworth and again they have come up trumps. They have basically modified my feed pipe to fit a sensor takeoff in it. I think it looks really smart:

This shows the fitting and the swaged joint, hopefully being swaged the joint should be strong and not be prone to leaks.

The protective cover was then moved back into position:

I think this is a really smart solution and once it has a little engine dirt on it will look almost OEM. The takeoff also has the handy 1/8NPT thread that I have decided on as a standard for all the additional sensors on the car.

I've also picked up two pressure sensors one for fuel and one for oil - you can see the sensor below:

The engine has also been moving forwards, the new Competition Clutch has been installed:

And the new clutch release fork, support and bearing installed:

Lastly for now the engine and gearbox have now been mated together! :)

Maybe rebuild again? :D

that fuel line looks good, would of thought it will be more than strong enough

Excellent idea on the fuel sensor Mike

Might have to mark those pictures Not Work Safe due to Automotive "exotic art"

you know what your doing yet with regards to the chargecooler? you going to be using the standard jobbie? what are your power goals?

Sorry about all the questions, Ive been out the loop for a while!! :D

The plan is to retain the standard chargecooler as I want to keep the car as standard looking as possible.

The final power goal if for 360-380hp. Whilst the chargecooler isn't going to be great at that level of course the car doesn't spend all day producing that power output.

From all the sensors being installed I'll have a good idea of whats going on, so I can look into changing it later.

with you wanting to keep it oem looking, I was wondering about power levels and the chargecooler. :D

It will be interesting to see how inlet temperatures increase at higher power levels. Im contemplating a fmic setup if I can get hold of one and im interested to see if its worth it considering as Im at 1.0+bar only 5% of the time

Fmic is like a future proof safety modification if done correctly, what turbo are you running ?

I completely agree and to be honest, the reason I would consider fitting a FMIC setup would be to increase safety margin on track by reducing inlet temps. I dont think I would consider chasing more power once fitted as Im concentrating on chassis/suspension setup for this years track time. Im running the standard turbo at around 305-310bhp

I do like the current chargecooler setup and am reluctant to change it unless Im going to risk daft inlet temps on track whilst at 1.0-1.1 bar.

The reason I asked mike about this was I was wondering about his power levels when the standard chargecooler setup is going to be strained at 350bhp+ for an extended period of track time.

IMO at circa 300hp the charge cooler setup is fine, you'll see inlet temps of 50+ degrees but as long as its not a super hot day and you keep it to 8-10 lap stints it's fine.

I have found that track days are becoming so expensive I can't realistically build the car for something that may happen at most 2-3 times per year. If the temps become a problem I will simply turn the boost down, something I usually do on track anyway :)

I agree, because Im under water half the year im not so sure going for a fmic setup at the moment is worth it. Im never about to enjoy the summer, lol

Good to see your keeping to the gt4's roots! :D

Think im going to run 1.0 bar sustained for the trackday in a fortnight, would be nice to pop slightly higher but not so sure its worth it

is that with water injection Mike?

I found the water keeps it a bit cooler than that.

The key IMO is to not do too many laps at once, then it will be fine :)

Just as a guide for you guys on the fmic set up ive done on my wrc in this cold weather running 1.4bar on a stock engine considering the extra mods ive done on mine my inlet temps are between 0 and 6 degrees, a few people have called my bluff on this and called me a liar but I have no need to lie, ive invited people round to see this for themselves which is always good to see their face after they realise am telling the truth

I am measuring temps before the intercooler and then before my water injection using thermocouples and spa dual digital gauges so accurate stuff

On very hot days running the 1.4bar am seeing inlet temps around 15 degrees you can physically feel the difference in power when the temps are lower it makes a big difference

Martin
