Hi,

what bozo-merlin said, you loose a lot of the radiator sourface

Betsy, have a clooser look to toyota radiators, it is nearly impossible to bleed all the air even on the best system you will find a few cc of air but toyota didn't make it wrong

So your both saying 100's of Celica Gt-Fours are trotting about with a gearbox oil cooler half full of air and the other half full of oil, Do you SERIOUSLY believe this!?

Hi,

no, have a look to the toyodiy link and you will see that air can be bleeded (side mounted connections), mixer72 mounting isn't able to be (buttom mounted connections)

Can't see anything about bleeders on the st205 Gearbox oil cooler, only that it is mounted on its side?
The st165 Gearbox oil cooler is mounted with the inlet/outlet along the bottom of the cooler rad..

I just don't see that mounting an oil cooler with the pipes at the bottom is any where near a bigger problem as mentioned above..
I would be more concerned of using 90' bends or pipework that is too small for the job.

My car has done several track days with NO ill effects and the cooler rad is a lot smaller than most fit, engine oil temps are kept in check.
In fact i have several blanking plates made up for the cooler rad for when i use to run mine in the winter.
A thermostatic controlled take off plate is used but even this allows a small amount of oil through the cooler.

weather others agree with your comments, in practice, on my car mounting the rad 'up side down' works just great :)

BETSY, i don't know about 165 GB oil cooler, but on 185 and 205 there a bottom in and Top out.
Moreover, lub in a GB is not as crucial as engine's bearing or cam.
With bottom hoses sometime rad go back in sump, so each time you start your engine you have to wait for good lub, not the best.

I think mixer can do it a better way that's all

your set up you don’t have the bumper bar fitted or head light in, so without cutting lots of the chasse away and the ally bumper support I won’t go that way round I still have the head light fitted so that takes up room as well ,, with my set up that the oil would run back to the sump as the oil filter I much hier than the oil cooler and then it goes from the oil cooler buck up to the block, the only way oil can run back to the sump id by the oil return on the turbo

Head light are not an issue as i'm used to have them fitted when this pics was taken, but you're right about crash bar.

I forget you have a rev2 with its high locationn filter, no risk about empty the rad in the sump as on a rev3.

I am still thinking that's not the best way to install an engine oil rad.

I would advise some hoseclamps on those oil lines. When they warm up they expand and you will have oil leaking. I had the same on my car.

Why the mesh?

clamps going on today :) need the mess to stop any thing hitting the cooler that might make holes in it,

Those are sturdy coolers. I think the mesh is stopping airflow to the cooler.

When is your next dyno?

Look similar to Speedline Supertourismo WRC. What size are they and how much do they weigh?
