Finsihed lagging the Water to Air Intercooler for the GT4. Left it soaking in an acid bath for a few days to strip it back to bare metal and clean out the insides. 'Lid' was then cleaned up (removed a few bleamishes etc) before it was given a coat of etch primer. A couple of layers of gloss black closely followed the graphics before the paint fully dried (I designed the graphics myself and simply sent the design to a vinyl cutter. I'm also swapping from a twin to single entry turbo soon). A couple of layers of clear coat were then added to seal in the graphics. Once that had been give a day to dry, I then lagged the lower half with a roll of Thermo-Sheild Tape TM. Job done :)

How many layers of tape did you use Gary?
I don't really want to clean it out as you did....merely cover it in heatsheild tape.
Did you buy the tape from a specialist car shop or from a Hardware store?

One layer of heatshield tape was used. Stating the ovious (sorry), but ensure that the WAI is completely free of dirt, grease etc before applying - otherwise it'll come off :oops: A cleaning agent like meths would be ideal. Also a good time to clean the insides out while it's off the car.
The Thermoshield Tape can be purchased from Demon Tweeks. I bought mine locally though.

Nice work Gary

Is that cutout in the bottom bulged out or sunk in. I don't recall my (non Group A) cooler having such a thing....

Mine is the same as Gary's. Have we discovered another WRC/Group A difference to the later ST205's?

Is the cut out so the WRC item can have more stock heat shield applied??
I know mine has a hefty wad of it sitting under the cooler & Ian assured me it came stock with the car.
Just a thought… :? :?

Daz, are you referring to the heat deflector? This is only a narrow strip of aluminized heat resistant material fitted at the front of the top mount to stop excess heat from the extractors cooking the tank.

Be interesting to see the difference of intake temperatures from the two variants.

Maybe worth while to rig up pre cooler, and post cooler sensors, as well as ambient heat sensor underside the wai, maybe another sensor inside the heat tape..

Least it would should how well the efficacy of the WAI is, or is not...compared to other set-ups.

Looking tip top Gary, looks like a nice job :)

I shall have to get some pics of mine up - had it sorted by Mark Cooper (the guy who works for Red Bull Racing) and he stripped it back to bare metal, polished it up, applied two layer lagging to the base and sides (top layer gold) then made up a carbon fibre plate for the top onto which one of my no monkey business logos was added before it got laquered. Looks amazing, and should do the job just dandy too :D

I think he plans to do these aesthetic / functional upgrades on an exchange basis :)
