I have a cunningly plan to fit an engine oil cooler from this location and junk the stock water/oil sandwich plate style cooler...we'll see!

Adrian has ditched the 'doughnut' on his Gen 7 Celica. From the comments he made at Challenge Day it sounded like this was a post-JEMS mod. Jon is keen for me to retain the doughnut to avoid unnecessary engine wear during the start-up/warm-up cycle. On the Gen 7 there is an Aeroquip hose take off from the plate. This worked loose during the track sessions and had to be tightened up. Can't remember what it was feeding though  ...need to consult my vast photo library of the Fensport beast to see if I can work it out ...heh, heh!

Steve, GT3071 is the weapon of choice, go on, you know you want to

Kris, at the moment my 'track weapon' is looking rather forlorn having been stripped of all the interior trim and other junk from the front end. Its literally just a shell now with a wiring loom. It all looks a bit scary. I'm just glad I don't have to put it all together!

I understand that the oil "cooler" works in reverse when the engine is started from cold - the warmer engine coolant warms the engine oil via the heat exchange process in the oil cooler, once warmed up then this acts in reverse.

I'm quite keen on loosing this cooler for a couple of reasons:
1. Take loading off the water system - after all it has it's own job to do, let alone help cool the oil system
2. Add a more efficient and greater capacity oil cooler to help ensure oil temps are kept in check

I wonder how the removal of the aid to warming the oil when the engine is started will affect things? Any geeks out there?!? :)

Oh, by the way, the price for the downpipe for the GT3071 ext gate as shown has dropped to ~£450 :D - the jig will be removed in a week or less...

many high powered engine with only oil coolers, no heat exchangers, no problems as long as you encourage some warming up before use. 50c for oil..

bining da heat exchanger probably not suitable for a road going car.

i like the remote water to oil coolers...

All the F1 teams warm their oil before engine start-up. Also, the factory-run Le Mans spec Corvette GT1's with their Katech-built LS7's use remote engine oil warmers

As DJ says this is all a bit extreme UNLESS you have built your engine to very tight race-spec tolerances.

I'm still here.

The DP has been finished, with an extra couple of lambda bosses welded on...

Now attempting to sort out the damn water lines. The oil line is easy, but getting a decent installation for the water lines is proving more difficult.

I'll stick some more pictures up of my progress in due course :)

Have made some progress on the water lines and have the oil feed pretty much finished. I have tried to get the easily melted lines away from the hot stuff in an attempt to keep it reliable and not bursting into flames!

Just have the oil drain to sort out now...

you not finished that little mod yet :P

looking tasty though.

just finished the oil drain on my early learning centre tubby...hmmmmm...in a word. Because it sits low the angle of the dangle is not as good as i'd hoped, fingers crossed it should stilll flow to the sump ok.

what you using for the drain? aeromotive stuff, swaged, push on fittings or a pre made hard pipe?

Hoping for an aluminium external thread flange to bolt to the turbo oil drain and then attach a braided oil line with aeromotive fittings to help ensure it stays reliable.

Trouble is the drain needs to initially be kicked back towards the block so that it is routed away from the hot stuff.

Only flanges I can find are in the States and I'm having troubles giving my money away in return for goods...still! :(

Kris, if you are concerned about the proximity of any of your lines to the turbine hot side I'd suggest you consider using Goodridge fireproof sleeve. You use this as a cover for your aeroquip lines. This solution is in widespread use in motorsport and available from the likes of Thieves.

Product description:
This is a silicone covered sleeve which acts as a fire retardant, an insulator and a chafe protector. Installed by inserting the hose into the sleeve prior to hose fitting assembly. It can provide protection up to 2000 degrees F (1093 degrees C) for up to 15 minutes. Available in orange or silver and to suit tube OD's of 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" or 1".

Peter - thanks for the tip but the GT30 requires a flange that is bolted to the drain, it doesn't have a screw in fitting as per some turbos :(

Don - thanks, was planning to use some stuff just like that! :)
