Just received this press release:

Shell V-Power fuel replaces Shell Optimax
Shell V-Power is the new and improved fuel which replaces Shell Optimax today. The high octane quality, combined with its optimised formulation, are designed to provide improved performance in many modern cars.

Shell V-Power contains Shell’s unique FMT (Friction Modification Technology) which is designed to reduce friction inside your engine, helping the car run more efficiently. This is the same FMT that is used by the Formula One Ferrari team in their 2006 racing fuels.

Combined with an Octane Rating of 99 RON* and high detergency to help protect your car against harmful deposits, Shell V-Power can help you get more performance and responsiveness from your engine.

Interesting that they've upped the octance rating to 99 RON, maybe to combat the Tesco 99 and to a lesser extent the mega expensive BP Ultimate 102 RON

Huh? Did you guys have V-Power AND Optimax? Or is V-Power just new? We have had it for over a year and a half now iirc.. :? No Optimax here though.

Rene, we always seem to get things last of all here in the UK :( With all the Shell V-Power marketing in evidence throughout mainland Europe and North America I was hoping we'd get this eventually :D
Presumably you guys never had Optimax ? (98 RON)

I have been running Tesco 99 ron and Optimax (which I have half a tank of at the moment.
Some people have said I will need to remap my ecu to use this new shell fuel....I can't see why...the tesco 99 and optimax have been working perfectly on my car....I just reset the ecu after changing ron ratings.

No, we never had it under that name. For as long as I can remember we have had the 'normal' euro95 (95 RON) and super (98 RON) - Shell replaced the super with V-Power 2 years ago.. But iirc V-Power in Holland is 97 RON while in Germany it's 100.

I thought that V-Power was the name that Optimax went by in mainland europe and the octane was different because of various regulations in each different country. I knew V-Power was on the way but thought it was just a name change (like Jif to Cif) rather than a different product.

Any increase in octane can't be a bad thing, as long as they don't use it as an excuse to hike the price up further.

Did do another run on the rollers friday night with V power fuel in instead of the texaco high octane, the results were quite shocking.
412 ft lb texaco 563.7 Bhp
455 ft lb V power 564.7 Bhp
As you can see the torque is impressive on V power.

hutch - is this with you adding some timing or are you indicating it just made more torque from the fuel alone?

I want some before my mapping session if it's gonna be the new optimax
