Personal experience during a track day on the Silverstone National circuit. Lost most of my coolant out the top of the expansion tank on entry into Copse corner. Made life interesting and for those following

Ah ok, so you thought that this could have been the cause of your problem.
I was just curious if you got water pump cavitation with an in room experiment...

A bit strange anyway as I never got this problem in Monza (looooooong straights...), but i do love the ewp concept!

The long straights at Monza are probably like the Silverstone GP circuit. They mean that the engine gets a chance to rest and cool down as its not pulling max rpm all the way down the straight. The short circuit is tight ans twisty so I was bouncing the engine off the limiter a lot of the time.

Not in Monza!
And in fact is a bad track for our car...
the main straight comes after a long 3th & 4th gear parabolic curve, and it's long 1.2 kms!
And at the end you're close to tacho 290 kmh so the engine stays there for long time... :D
But as you think, we all could have cavitation problems without knowing... and that's bad for sure...

Hi Don,
which was your rad cap rating at that time?
Were you using any special liquid as coolant?

IIRC
1.5 bar TRD radcap on a KOYO alloy rad running Forlife coolant

I personally think it was an oddity. Quite a few of us have run the same track without issue as has Don. I wonder if a bit of debris prevented full closure of the cap causing pressure loss and a cascade failure

I still prefer the ewp and restrictor/controller though. It gives a much more predictable delta across the engine

I believe Adrian Smith had cavitation issues with his 200mph screamer

Isn't the TRD 1.3?

Yes... but it is always good to investigate deeper...

Koyo rad use WTA cap style (never remember type 1 or 2, A or B, S or N, ...)

TRD do the 1.3 (for SW20) and 1.5 (for ST205 WTA) and you can use both on the koyo.

S type...
Ah ok, i thought max trd cap opening pressure, any type, was 1.3!
