I just had a vision of Don wearing one of those hats with corks hanging from the rim.

Was Martin blinded when you dropped it off?

Bit more of an update. I've spent the last couple of weekends doing more driving around to get the car run in, along with multiple oil changes.

I noticed that the reading from the datalogger/dash display for oil pressure was quite low and definitely a cause for concern. Given that we had tested the oil pressure with the engine out of the car I suspected a calibration issue with the sensor, but I wanted to be sure so I bought a mechanical capillary oil pressure gauge that I have been using to keep an eye on the pressure:

Image

Running the engine shows a healthy 5+ bar of oil pressure (rather than 2.5 that the datalogger was giving me!)

Last weekend just gone with the bank holiday was a good oppertunity to get some more miles on it. With having a wedding to go to on Saturday I decided to make the trip up to Blackburn on Thursday, change the oil quickly and then spend Friday driving the car all the way home via A and B roads.

On Sunday Steve popped over and we spent the afternoon giving the car a good polish as it was looking very sorry for itself after 18 months of being off the road and probably 3-4 years of poor paint maintenance prior to that. Its now looking really nice and shiny again:

So thanks to Steve (Two_oh_five) for all his hard work.

On Monday it was time to drive the car back to the workshop, it was an uneventful drive, again on A and B roads keeping the engine moving through the rev range differing gears, load, boost etc.

Arriving back in Blackburn the trip counter was showing 997 miles - add the 5 that I did originally before I remembered to reset the trip and the running in is now done!

So with that done it now just has a few jobs - retorquing the head studs, fitting my replacement drivers side door and the car is finished for this stage!

:)

Steve has transformed your car Mike  I do hope you have invested in a car cover to keep it looking good and save yourself a lot of work? Have you booked him to do the new door once that has been fitted

My spies are everywhere Don. I already know all about the nut and plan to bring many tools to deal with it. :)
