Finally got round to fitting an inlet air temp sensor today. Bought a basic system from Oz which includes a probe and LCD monitor. Max / min alarms can be set with max / min recall.

Placement required a bit of work, but settled on just after the throttle. Involved removing the cold start water injector and cutting off the nozzle. The housing was then drilled out to allow the probe to be pushed in - being held in place by an interference fit. A blob of silicone sealant around the base completed the job..





I have yet to decide where in the cabin to mount the monitor. With a short length of wire between the probe and display, I have to cut the wiring to insert a section to make life easier. Initial tests showed an average temp of between 35 - 40 deg C when the throttle is open and 45 deg C + when sitting in traffic. Interesting that as soon as you pull away and the pump is activated by the opening of the throttle, the temp drops almost instantly by at least 5 deg C. Still, despite typical warm ambient temps today, still have a bit of work to do to get those temps down

BTW, while everything was apart, took the opportunity to mount a 0.4mm nozzle for the ERL water injection system I'll soon be running

Sounds very similar to the 'summer' temps I used to see in Penny when i had my inlet air temp sensor fitted.

Don't know if you are running WI, but that was always interesting too. As soon as WI came on inlet temps would drop by a min of 10 degrees -WHAM - just like that!

My guage went off the scale at 70C My father in law is/was the only person to take it off the scale GRRRRR (and he's a driving instructor )

I am definitely going to refit mine to the 205 at some point, i think it is a very handy thing to monitor

Gary, good find with the temp gauge. I like the fact it is rated up to 150deg C. Most of the affordable ones I've seen are only calibrated up to a max of 70deg C. I've found it often exceeds this when sitting in traffic so I guess its a heat soak problem. Also, the location of the probe seems to be quite critical. I located mine at one side of the plenum and found there was a big discrepancy between the temps recorded on my ACT gauge and the stock plenum temp sensor as evidenced from the MoTeC datalog.

Looking at the photos of your installation location hopefully you will not suffer the same problem as we have. Drilling and tapping the plenum is a bit of a scary proposition to most people which is why the ACT gauge is so popular as it comes with a 1/8NPT thread and vacuum take-off hose so can be a straight replacement for one of the vacuum pipes in the plenum.....or so we thought. The only problem is it seems to be giving misleading data Doesn't the Apexi PFC take the output from the stock plenum temp sensor?

Yes, but you need the hand controller to read the temps. The set-up I have is much cheaper
