imho being a cheap skate pays :) all my mods have been done on the cheap buying second hand items. Might not be most technically advanced but having approx 260bhp on tap for £2500 inc buying the car one can't complain :) Saying that £35 nicker for a Blitz induction kit is more like theft :D 8)

IMHO (thought it important to start with that), Blitz SUS filters are utter shite, and I mean UTTER.

Seives for rice and pasta, cotton elements for cars. Simple.

Can you advise another alternative?

Which filter would you buy?

If induction kits are not beneficial and almost (to a certain extent) problematic, would I be better buying an upgraded panel filter?

Thanks for the advise gents and I know we all have our own opinions as to whats right and not etc etc.

I agree strongly with this also! :)

ANY filter you can see through is not a filter, it is a sieve. I would humbly recommend steering clear of the Blitz SUS and also the HKS foam jobbie also, neither of these are particularly brilliant :(

OPinion is divided but I am not a fan of foam filters, I prefer a cloth type e.g. Apexi, K&N

I did not realise the HKS's were thought of as being poor. The 2 most expensive are the worst then.
I had tried a search on the K&N UK site and found this:

1992 TOYOTA Celica 2.0L L4 F/I - GT Four, 16v Automotive 57i Kit 57-0388

Would this be the right model number at all? I take it that with my car being a CS model then the fitting would be different to a normal st185.... :?

Would the Apexi kit I need for my CS be a universal one or is it the st185 one that just needs modifying (adaptor plate) to fit.
The cone on the st205 in another thread looks small in comparison to the Blitz/HKS filters.

Lee, don't beat yourself up mate, many people have been running these for years without any issues!

It looks great, sounds great and is reliable! :D

I'm sure it will look fantastic in your engine bay! :D

I think regular checks of the filter and intake sections are advisable. If you keep them clean and free of any debris then you may well have trouble free motoring.

Has anyone fitted one of those BMC Carbon airboxes to a GT4?
I had one on my Honda Prelude 2.2 si VTEC. It was very good.

If you have the patience and space, a custom air box and either, Green cotton, K&N or Apexi filter. If no time/space in the engine bay just get one of those brands induction kits for the car. Once rolling the air circulation around the engine bay means enough cold air will get to the filter as long as it isnt really tucked away.

The notion behind foam and metal mesh filters is that oiling them will trap particles of dirt as they flow past and they will get sunk in to the oil. The reality is things like the Blitz SUS are just that bit to large in the mesh gaps for that theory to really work well.

Everyone has their own view on the various induction kits, air filters etc. When I bought my Blitz SUS Induction Kit I knew it wan't going to filter out the fine dust. My main aim was to maximise the unimpeded flow of air into the turbo. I realised that this might result in some engine wear but I've had mine on the car now for six years and it seems fine.

If I was living in Australia or similar dusty environment then I'd think twice and would almost certainly go for a K&N flat panel filter in the standard air box. The Apexi filter element 'appears' to be similar to the K&N. I have no personal experience of using the Green Cotton filters but they've been recommended in several magazine articles.

FWIW I shall probably go for an Apexi filter on my new engine as I want to protect my investment!
