imo, best bet is to take it to a local workshop and get a universal stretchy one fitted

Iirc they are like most other CV joints. (I am about to do one of mine so I'll let you know if they are not). First you need to remove the old boot by cutting it off. Then use a soft faced hammer to give the joint a sharp blow, the hammer should run down the length of the shaft to strike the joint where it is located onto the splines. If the hammer head skims the shaft as it hits the back of the joint then that should be OK. It should shock it free from it's snap ring and allow the CV to slide off the splines!

Mixer,

There is an article on our website, www.gtfours.co.uk under the section; how to/ repair & maintain / change CV joint boots.

Its a very early one so doesn't have many pictures etc as some of the other/later writeups have, but it should give you the steps you need . . .

Hope this helps.

Right then, please ignore my earlier post as I was talking rollocks!

Can't have been a four shaft I was thinking of as I've just done mine and it's nothing like I remembered

To do a 205 shaft it is as follows:

There is a wire type clip just inside the outer section of the inboard joint. It is easy to see when the boot is removed and the grease has been washed out. Pop the wire ring out of the joint and it will then be possible to slide it apart. You should match mark the joint as you take it apart to insure it goes together the way it came apart. The balls will probably drop out and roll off across the floor, well mine did anyway!

You should now be able to see a circlip on the end of the shaft. You need to remove it to allow the inner section to slide off the splined end of the shaft. When you have done this you can fit boots to either end of the shaft as required after washing the joints out and packing with grease. If there is a rubber piece in the middle of the shaft, you will need to remove it if you are going to fit a boot to the outer CV joint and then slide it back on afterward. I used a tie wrap to secure mine afterward. Reassembly is a simply a reversal of the above :D
