Well well, I guess its better to be back in a Yaris than not to be back atall.
I wish the old rule with homologisation cars was reinstated.
WRC is not what is used to be, just a bunch of ugly small citycars and hatchbacks with no real roadrunning version. That used to be the big appeal with WRC (Group A and B)for me.

I agree, the Group A homologation rules were great as it meant some great performance cars were available to buy. The move to the 'kit car' WRC regulations was, I believe instigated by the teams and manufacturers as they could use purpose built competition engines and drivetrains which were more reliable but a lot more expensive. There's been talk recently of introducing something similar to Group N production spec 4WD for club rallying. This would allow cars like the Audi TT to be run. The newly announced Ford Focus RS with it's torque vectored 4WD system would be another candidate.

I have to say that Focus RS is a bit of a dream come true for me, I bought a ST205 because I wanted a "cossie". I went on autotrader at the very beginning of my journey and spat my coffee over the screen, 25k+!!!!!!

I found the video of clarkson road testing the ST205 against the Cosworth.

I found an ST205 for 1.5k.

so what I am trying to say is I will have to wait a decade, but I really want an AWD focus RS, the Cossie of the future I feel.

As for the Yaris, its not that attractive even with the 6r4 arches, might be good fun though. Generally would be awesome if manufacturers did start making homologation cars again. Funny how mitsi have decided to give in on the Evo, and everyone else wants back in.

There's a good article on the new Focus RS here: http://www.fullboost.com.au/news.php?newsId=3458 also includes some videos although I suggest you fast forward through the Ford top brass PR guff

It sounds technically mouth watering but IMO is let down by a rather boring body style. Ford could have done more to make it stand out. There's no WOW factor like you have with the Celica GT-Four or even, dare I say the mad looking Escort Cosworth with the whale tail.

I'm hoping that Toyota will bring out a more sporty looking version of the Yaris WRC or even a WRC version of the one-off 4WD GT86 which Tommi Makinen built recently for the president of Toyota Image
