I finally got around to starting my vlog for my gtfour project. Its my first time in front of the camera, and I am still sorting out cinematography and editing but I learned a lot from this first episode. I am planning more soon. I'll be doing some covering all my mods, some stuff I am working on and some interviews with locals. Anyhow, check it out and subscribe.

Thanks. Got many more lined up and more interviews. They go slow because the place making parts is kind of backed up, and of course life stays busy. Once I get the car back on the road I am hoping to post more events and get some driving time in.

Thanks. One reason I do them is so I can teach myself how to do the editing, software etc. I am hoping the quality improves as I do them, and maybe I can garner more attention from parts manufactures by doing them for the sake of the community.

The Recaro's are great seats and as well as being supportive I find they are extremely comfortable on long journeys. You should have added a road test section to your video diary! To pick up on your point about the high side bolsters making it a bit more tricky to get in and out you will probably find the side bolster material starts to wear eventually. If you take care then you can probably minimise this. The other thing you might find is that the seats make a 'click' sound sometimes when cornering. I guess this might be when my weight shifts in the seat. It feels like the recliner mechanism might need adjusting. It's not a big deal though but something we've found over time.

My Recaro's are out of a Supra so they already had a bit of use. With the Le Mans fabric they are a match for the original Toyota factory option  They are sitting on Bride frames but not as low as the ones you reviewed. I've had this setup in my Four for ten years now and they're still in pretty good condition. Next job is to fit the matching rear seats which have been sitting in my spare room for a while :-D The rear seats pretty rare. I think mine came out of an ST202.

I would like to do some road tests, but I won't be taking the car out until the salt washes away. They salt so heavily here for the winters that you will see fairly new cars here rusted out. I miss driving in the snow in the south, where the locals fear to tread in it and they don't salt.
I am going to be installing a GPS speedometer next month, but the whole video will likely not be done till spring because that one really needs a road test.
My steering wheel has a popup feature that I do not use that will make it easier to get in. I was going to disable it, but now I think I am going to keep it just so I can get in without looking like I am elderly.
I am trying to decide what to do with my rears. I will either find a US cloth rear and dye it. There are claims JDM had an option for black interior. I would like to source these and be done. I could also try and fit black 20x seats, but the foam is not a perfect fit, so I might have to stretch them over 185 foam. I doubt I will spend the money to have rear covers made of recaro fabric largely due to the complexity of the rear seats and their buckets.

I think they've started spreading salt and grit here too. I try and avoid taking my JDM ST205 out in winter weather now. My UK ST205 bodyshell survived twelve UK winters salty roads quite well. We found this when we stripped the car as part of the track build. The biggest problem is the engine bay where some of the brackets and fittings rust really badly. On my JDM ST205 my winter project is to refurbish these parts using the specialist corrosion treatments I have bought. In the meantime, now I've sold the Elise I've got the option of storing the car in the garage this winter :) Definitely an improvement over the double car covers I've been using.

The only problem I experienced with the salt here is it seems to act like a sand blasting agent, so it removes paint which then rusts bare material.

As requested, a final video for the season with review of the recaros and a little talk about suspension plans.

Glad the Recaro's passed your road test and you are happy with them. The snug fit on your posterior may be a bit more of an issue if you indulge in a big Christmas dinner! Your latest video log also does shed a bit more light on your thinking regarding the suspension. I was wondering why you wanted to change it. Lowering the car will theoretically help with the ultimate roadholding but on a road car this is normally at the expense of the handling.

At a more basic level, when I fitted the circuit spec TRD coilovers sourced from Japan via TTE in Cologne I found there was hardly any free travel left above the rubber bump stop. It was something like 15mm! In retrospect I should have measured the strut length against the OEM strut. I'm sure the full extended length must have been shorter. Raising the spring platforms only increased the pre-load. The damping rate was totally unsuited to the roads in the UK although it was probably ideal for a smooth circuit (as the product description would suggest!) I quickly removed them and sold them on replacing them with four point adjustable KYB dampers and TRD lowering springs.

The other issue you can encounter if you lower a car is affect the steering geometry. We had to raise the steering rack on my Lotus Elise when we lowered it to 100mm ride height for circuit driving. With my ST205 track project we have deliberately not lowered it too much so we avoid these problems. Careful specification of Ohlins dampers, selection of appropriate springs, adjustable heavy duty ARB's and fitting adjustable track control arms should mean we get a car that's going to handle on track without having to re-engineer the suspension pick-up points. Some WRC rally cars like the Subaru Impreza 22B feature a selection of pick-up points on the subframes. It would have been nice to build something like that but I decided against it for the time being. Always wary of moving the goalposts, scope creep and budget blowouts

In your case if you want to lower the car but retain the suspension travel then I guess you could modify the suspension turrets. I think I've seen this on some rally cars but I'd check the effect of your proposed changes on suspension geometry before making any changes.
