Seen out on track last weekend at the opening round of the Nippon challege was Ross Stoners Gen 6 Celica GT. It was a pretty standard car apart from the roll cage and other gear required for racing. I was suprised that the 'dash-dodger' roll cage passsed MSA scrutineering. A lot of the 4WD cars like the Impreza's and Evos were using Yokohama A005 race tyres but this Celica I think ran on the road tyres seen in these pics. It was certainly entertaining to watch the car three wheeling through the Brooklands left hander! :D

Does the MSA blue book specifically prohibit that type of cage?

MSA Blue Book 2011 states:

Definitions
1.1.4. Front Rollbar. Similar to main rollbar but its shape follows the windscreen pillars and top screen edge

Technical Specifications
1.3.1. Main, Front and Lateral Rollbars. These frames or hoops must be made in one piece without joints. Their construction must be smooth and even, without ripples or cracks. The vertical part of the main rollbar must be as straight as possible and as close as possible to the interior contour of the bodyshell. The front leg of a front rollbar or a lateral rollbar must be straight, or if it is not possible, must follow the windscreen pillars and have only one bend with it lower part.

You will see from the interior pics that there is a supplementary sub-vertical straight leg from near the top of the A pillar to the floorpan. The front rollbar also follows (at least in part!) the A pillar to the floorpan with only one bend. I think this is a good example of how to make a 'dash=dodger' rollcage compliant with the regs without carving up the dash trim. I think Steve has suggested this in the past but this is the first example I've seen of such a rollcage design thats passed scrutineering.
