Hi All,
well its feckin snowing. my fiance tells me that it is not good to have wide tyres in the snow.
is this true?
have you ever seen a dog walk? (obviously most have), theyre back legs seem to come to the side so they dont walk in a straght line.
(remember the start of the littlest hobo), WELL the point is my car feels like this, it feels like the back is sliding to the left. Is it just me?
what is the best way to brake with the ABS?
foot down or on and off to ,make double abs?
thank you in advance.
does the power split between front and back on 185's? cant remember.
or does it all go to the rear wheels.
ta :D

Wider tyres are a disadvantage in the snow as a thinner tyre tends to cut through the layer of snow. Notice that rally cars always use narrow tyres on the snow stages.

Driving in a higher gear than you normally would can reduce the chance of the wheels spinning, as for brakes - I use mine very very gently in the snow and keep the speed right down remember it can take upto 10x further to stop.

The power split on all GT-Fours is 50/50 front rear.

As Mike says. Thinner tyres are used on the snow stages of rallies to cut down to the solid surface underneath. I doubt this option is open to many of us though :D

The Four is better able to cope than some cars because it is so easy to control when it does lose traction, but ideally you would not get to that stage on the road.

If you have abs it should be able to cope with snow conditions, but I have heard stories of abs cars that pretty much don't let the brakes act at all because the tyres never get traction, so be careful.

Higher gears are better because with the revs nice and low you will be putting down less torque, so the chances of spinning up are greatly reduced. That's why the AA recommends pulling away in 2nd if you are stuck in a snowdrift.

Don't try messing with your tyre pressures though. Some people say this can help with traction, and in theory they are right, but the dangers of getting it wrong outweigh the possible benefit if you can get it right.

im pretty sure ABS is a liability in heavy snow as you will have pretty much no brakes at all

i managed to dent another car with my first 165 by driving into him :)

when i brake it clunks loud is this normal. or is the abs meant to be smooth when pedal is depressed.
I know that audi se's have a switch to switch off the abs so. they ( who ever they are) say it allows the snow to build to slow you down. where as abs doesnt allow it by nature of what it is.
im scared.
all the snow is now sheet ice around my estate. I live opposite a hilly road and cars struggle to get up. i hope they dont come into my house.

dont know wether to park infront of my house coz theyll hit my car first.
i dont know which is worse
