I'm doing some research at the moment.
I know of two manufacturers that use or have used timing chains in their cars.
Nissan used timing chains extensively in the early ninties right up to now (in the Micra) or as far as I know anyway.
Renault 5's used timing chains exccept in a couple of engine sizes 1.2 and 1.4 turbo IIRC.
Do Renault use timing chains in the Clio range?

Any other manufacturers still do this?

VW Corrado VR6 used a timing chain.

Think quite a few motorbikes also use chains?

My mate has a 1.8 16v Corrado. He's not a VR6 fan as he thinks they are cumbersome.....that being the 2.9 litre.....did they use it in the 2.8 litre Golf VR6?

My Dad's M.Bike uses a timing chain. He says his Kwaka has a timing chain life of 50k miles which is pretty good for a high revving bike. It's a lot easier for him to change it though...

Don’t forget Ford used chains, off the top of my head the Escort RS2000 (IIRC engine was the DOHC); Pre cross flow engines; Kent cross flow engines & the Lotus twin cam 8v engines, all used chains.

Ford duratec 2.5 and 3.0 also use chains

Not exactly in the cheap runabout category though since they are only fitted to high spec mondeos or X type Jags (or the Noble if you want real fun lol) and are slightly(!!!!!) thirsty
On a leisurely trip of the UK mine averaged 28mpg and it gets into GT4 territory when pushing on lol

The reason for all this is because unless I get this job I have applied for then I am going to have to sell the CS....as much as it hurts me to do it financial matters are more of a priority.
The Yaris I have been advised does use timing chains on all it's petrol engines so I can sell the CS and buy me a nice little 1.0 jobbie.....
On the other hand...if I get this job.....the CS stays.

My TransAm's Chevy engine has a timing chain, but since it uses push-rods the chain is only wee.

Yep, the Corrado had the higher output and displacement engine whilst the Golf got the 2.8. Also I think the throttle body was enlarged on the Corrado

Wasn't there an outrageous service interval on a Chevvy? of 100k miles? (unbelievable I know!) This featured a timing chain I think?

Kris...I think your referring to a Cadillac model....IIRC had the NorthStar engine 100k service....could run without water in a desert too....
