A few of us have been discussing this at our pub meets the last couple of months, and it's now definately going ahead.

We haven't decided anything for definate yet apart from the dates (work holiday booked), but it's basically a tour round some of the highlights of Europe (in our eyes anyway), particularly the Alps.

Likely via points discussed to date:

Le-Mans 24HR race.
Mont Blanc tunnel.
Stelvio.
Switzerland (suggestions ? - it's all nice)
Venice.
Brenner pass.
Salzburg (and the mountains to the South)
Cable car trip somewhere on route - Switzerland or Austria.
Nurburgring.
Open to other suggestions of good roads / places to visit.

Any advice / local knowledge would be helpful for any of the above venues.

We are throwing this open for anyone to join us for all or part of the trip. Driving a 4 isn't mandatory although it would be nice to have a convoy of fours. Diesel would reduce the cost hugely from better ecconomy/cheaper fuel.
Expected milage probably about 2000 ish on the continent + UK milage. Expected cost will probably be £500-£700 each based on 2 per car (excluding le-mans tickets) or £1000-1200 for individual car.
We are planning to camp most nights with a couple of nights in hotels to get cleaned up & recover. For the old gits who don't do camping, there are likely to be hotels nearby anyway.

I know the usual Le-Mans contingent from here usually tie in with another group and we don't want to tread on any toes by inviting ourselves. We are happy to stay separate or join up whichever is preferred. We may even decide to ditch Le-Mans depending on price/availability/majority preference and spend a couple more days in the mountains.

Just done a quick google / Thomas cook for Le-mans.

Race entry tickets £75 each.

Camping Fri & Sat night, 2 people per car, half pitch/2 people £165 each.
(Car parking. £150/Camping £180)

I personally find it hard to justify that sort of money for camping on site, any other suggestions from the experienced visitors ?

It was your trip that inspired me to join the lads from here on the Swiss trip 09 - that was fantastic.

Thanks for the link again, I'll have another look through for places to visit.
