For all the Group C fans I couldn't resist posting these links to some large format photos I took of this amazing car last weekend at the Silverstone Classic meeting,
Peter Sowerby's Nissan R90CK Group C Le Mans Sports Prototype from 1990. Powered by possibly the most powerful Le Mans engine ever, the 1000bhp Nissan VRH35Z 3.5 litre twin-turbo V8. The chassis was designed and built by Lola Cars for Nissan Performance Technology International (NPTI)
The R90CK was notable for achieving the highest straightline speed on the Mulsanne straight at the Le Mans circuit following the installation of the two chicanes. Mark Blundell reached 226.9 mph on his pole position lap . Apparently the qualifying engine had jammed its wastegate shut, leading the engineers to believe that the car was capable of 1100bhp! Bob Earl took the fastest lap during the race. This trap speed record with the chicanes in place still stands to this day.
Owner Peter Sowerby ran in fourth during the first stint of the 90 minute race. Shown here at Abbey corner.
Exiting Club corner.
Former British GT Champion Calum Lockie at the wheel exiting Bridge corner during the final stint.
Calum gets the thumbs up from the marshals at Luffield after taking the chequered flag to win the inaugural David Leslie Memorial Trophy by almost a lap after the opposition hit trouble
