I decided to change the gearbox and diff oil on my ST185 RC. The diff took just over a litre as expected but after draining the gearbox and transfer box I was only able to get just over 4 litres in but the specs indicate that it should need 5.2 litres. I understand that filling the geabox drains into the transfer case so left it an hour to see if I could get any more in but the oil was still up to the filling plug. Does the car need to be driven to circulate the oil and then re-checked? Any advice would be appreciated. |

From the wording it looks like you know there are 2 drain plugs and 1 filler plug. There is a fair bit of oil in the cooler circuit which doesn't drain. The quoted 5.2 litre is a fill from completely emptied. If I'd got 4 litres in a change I wouldn't be worried. |
