Post subject:  Misfire Diagnosed...
Just managed to find out why I had a misfire.

Thought it was related to changing my ECU over and mounting it porperly - dislodged wire or broken circuit opening relay. Nope! :?
Then went through diagnosing fuel relays, pump, igniter, etc...all ok there :?
Checked the plugs and they were all a bit black but nothing broken or untoward :?
I had heard that distributor cap and rotor arm failure is a common fault....but nothing prepared me for what I found:

Basically, due to vibration, the 2 screws holding the rotor arm came undone and made a bit of a mess :shock:

JP for helping me diagnose everything this morning (including the 118 205 [two-oh-five] support line) :D
and Tony at Fensport - new parts will be with me tomorrow :D

Christ knows how the bugger still ran with it like that. Initially it was a bit of a miss-fire that seemed to cure itself for 5 minutes before conking out. It was still showing some willing on trying to re-start though :-)

Your...er.....brother (miniyou?) did mention how amazed he was. I didn't really see why until the photos arrived :shock:

I guess the reason it wouldn't rev is that as the timing changed the remains of the rotor arm contact probably weren't lined up with the remains of the dizzy cap posts

I'm really amazed that the engine ran at all. I guess it was just a coincidence then that all this coincided with the ECU swap.

No disrespect to the great service that Fensport offer but OEM parts are usually cheaper if you buy direct from Mr T. Was it a case of no dealer stock?

That's what threw us :? and why it took so long to diagnose as we thought it was fuel related.

Generally, and in my experience, Mr T does not have these in stock because the vehcile has been superceeded by the gen7 so it's a "special" order and delivery from Belguim (normally twice a week but with Christmas I wasn't gauranteed to get it before next week).
All credit to Tony at Fensport - stock item on the shelf, plus a discount and posted out the door yesterday - spoken to the courier company today who have confirmed delivery for tomorrow.

From what I can gather from TCB in Callington, Toyota have pulled all the dealer discounts so as to make all there parts even more hideously over priced. Nice move on there part in a global recession.

I suppose they need all the extra money to research how to persuade as that a Prius is a nice car! :roll: :lol:

Interesting, whenever I've bought from Mr T any discounts have been at the discretion of the Service Manager. Maybe Toyota have removed that flexibility from the dealerships/franchises?

From what I have been told, that is it in a nutshell. TCB used to pass on most or all of the discount they could get to us, hence the very good pricing. Now they have had to start charging more for all the Mr.T parts they sell! :cry:
