Not gt4 based but on the os rear of my mondeo (mcpherson strut) Clunks noticably when the wheel is rocked enthusiasticly on the top to bottom plane. Does not clunk when side to side rocking is used Does not always exhibit the problem Does not clunk when jacked or when lowered after jacking I think the damper shaft is worn in the normal ride height position. Anyone else care to proffer an opinion? |

Try and listen for where the clunk comes from ? Could be what you said or could also be bottom swivel worn at normal ride height angle (not knowing exact setup to be more specific) |

i think the clunk is coming from the rear quarterpanel area but others think it comes from the hub lol. I know there's no detectabe play in the topmount. Also can be felt clunking whwn ynking hard on the rear spring I guess i'll find oit this weekend as new rear discs and pads are required for mot |

You have probably left your wallet in the rear 1/4 panel some moons ago ![]() Could be worth checking the spring as apparently on mondeos is nearly as common as M3s! What about the bottom mounting point of the strut to hub? I guess that would be likely to give a sideways knock as well unless the control arms are keeping it from moving. ![]() |

Look for something simple first. There seemed to be very little damping on that corner when we bounced it last night. Weird that the noise disappeared after jacking it up off the ground then dropping it back again. Maybe the broken spring had reseated?...... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Maybe a clue there ![]() My past experience with worn out shocks is a knocking noise when going over small bumps that sounds like someone taking a lump hammer to your bodywork. Could easily be the internals broken up. |

I do think it's damper related, suspect shaft wear which may or may not have deflated the damper too. It is still damping though but it tends to porpoise a little on the mway so i suspect low speed damping may not be quite what it should be. The list of jobs is growing..... Guess i just need to get busy this weekend Luckily the support crew will be captive Saturday night ![]() |

Must be time to change the reliable daily driver for something really reliable like a Corvette Stingray? |

rude? It's downright insolent at the moment ![]() The list of MOT jobs is still quite long -need to fik the leaky lambda sensor, fix the broken T-VISalike, change the plugs, oil, fix the juddery brakes, get new tyres, fix the leaky fpr vac plumbing which makes itle like a bag o nails and fix the idle solenoid which makes it stall all the time. This mot has well and truly written the car off ![]() |
