Post subject:  Passenger door letting in water

My passenger side door has been letting in water, i have tried silicone sealant, but it's still letting in water is this a common problem among Gt4 St185 cars.

Has anybody got any ideas on how to repair the problem.

No it's not a common problem

Where is the water getting in?
What are the symptoms?

I have water dripping in where my window comes out of my door. The rubber doesn't seal nice with the window. This is because i stipped the car for paint a few years back, and i think i did something wrong with installing the glass back into the mechanism that holds the window.

hmm,
also worth checking your wing mirror is doen up tight and sealed.

By the sounds of it.... you have answered your own question m8. may be worth taking off the door card and looking at the install.

The water runs down by the door hinges onto the plastic strip and soaks the carpet. I got somebody to hose pipe the passenger door and found water leaking in.

I will have a look @ the door card today.

Cheers guys

If it's running down past the hinges then it's not actually the door that's leaking ;)
The hinge plate is not sealed to atmosphere. There's a metal lip in the door sill (under the plastic kick plate) which will prevent ingress from the door opening into the car

There's a rubber sealing strip all the way round the aperture which you should check for condition. Especially around the rear edge of the doorglass where in the B pillar area - it's easy enough to spring a leak in that area

Failing that the only other likely way for water to get in via the door is if there's a hole in the botto of the door. Open the door and carefully pour water on the glass. Get your head underneath and see where it emerges from

While you're there pull the kick panel off (it's only clipped on and should pull straight off). You'll see a lip where the outer sill is attached to the floor. Providing this lip is intach there's no way water can get in
