Are there any advantages to running a uk 185 (158k) on 99ron fuel ? Reading that the uk cars are mapped for the 97ron run of the mill unleaded, would using the latter more potent cause/have any detriment engine wise? Or not make a blind bit of difference :? except lighten the wallet

Hi Clive,
IMHO if you are running more boost than standard the extra RON offers some safeguard against knock.

Most seem to report better MPG from teh expensive fuels.

Personally I would still use Shell Optimax as it seems to have better all-round performance than the Tesco 99 based on GT-Four driver feedback over the last couple of years.

Aye, it's the case that the likes of Tesco 99 stuff is made up with addatives that evaporate off reasonably quickly whereas V-Power is refined to the higher octane and retains it.

As mentioned above, I found benefits in my Rover turbo to the point where mpg improvements outweighed the higher price, thus V-Power returned cheaper £ per mile :)
