thanks unfortanatly i didnt do the repair due to work didnt have time the car backfired when on idle in traffic scared the old lady behind me but before that was fine started up fine and ran great

As a quick check pull off the dizzy cap.

Backfire & revs rising at idle could be timing related.

It seems quite common for the rotor arm to come off and start to munch itself inside the dizzy cap, this can slowly manifest from car running rough to car dies or will not start as the rotor arm is munched to the point that no spark can be formed.

It is a 5-10 minute job so well worth checking and the dizzy woudl have been buggered with when cambelt was swapped.

great news car now starts however very lumpy up to 2k revs lots of black smoke at mo but fuel been sat in lines a while will check the dizzy cap but the car at mo dies instead of idle any help there as for the cambelt was changed oct last year aswel as full service and new oil
