I've noticed as number of videos lately about old things. Old machinary particularly interests me, particularly the way that complex processes are all controlled mechanically with not a transistor in sight. I was brought up in the era of pioneering electronic machine control where the mechanics were left simple with solenoids, valves and sensors and then the process was controlled by electronic or relay logic - then later by microprocessors where the logic was done by software. Nowadays it's normally done by a 'PLC' which is effectively a generic microprocessor control unit which can be customised to the application.

I also find it particularly amusing how much the 'health & safety' aspect has changed over the years. Moving parts and molten metal all within easy reach of the operator.

Anyway, the first one.

I have a bit of a thing for hit and miss stationary engines

Watching cams, gears, levers and the thing that occasionally goes PARP! fascinates me
