On the way back from doing some photos today and the sun was going down so it seemed right to get a nice photo of the silhouette of the Vulcan with the sun going down, it looked nice if i do say so. :)

What an excellent picture.

Such a shame that the Vulcan is in it's sunset year.

For anyone who hasn't experienced a vulcan display, or who wan't to see it one more time, I would urge you to make the effort this year as it's looks pretty certain to be it's last. I'm very thankful to the trust who enabled me to see it again when I thought it was gone forever.

Now, bring back the harrier.

Agree with Chris - its an astonishing aircraft. We are lucky living in Farnborough as we've been treated to several displays over the last few years with the Farnborough Airshow being so close.

My take on the Vulcan is they had called in some specialist and equipment to take a better look at the leading edge of the wings to carry out the modification work which was laid out by Avro..
of course the results will play apart in its future after the 2013 season.

Maybe if the Vulcan does get grounded, i too hope it doesn't, the attention will turn to getting a Victor airbourne again..
Fundraising is always the issue here though.

Some great videos on You tube from Airbourne air show etc..

Hi Dale,

Cracking picture mate.

I used to work there in the old days in the RAF.

The best aircraft ever build except for Concord IMHO, and both grounded :(

Any chance of the picture without your logo?

I would love to get it printed on canvas to go on the lounge wall.

Cheers

Phil

Interesting Steve, it would seem that the components have quite a limited life and they are towards the end of those, without the jigs to make new parts they are having to reverse engineer sections of the wings.

Hope they are able to continue, perhaps less dates per year would also be a way to get longer out of the aircraft.

I understand the Vulcan is a relatively simple aircraft to maintain and repair but metal fatigue can be a problem. One of the original V-bombers, the Vickers Valiant, was retired from service early due to wing spar fatigue caused by low level flying. It would be nice if they could keep the Vulcan flying.

Interesting that Concorde should get a mention.
back in my uni days I went to an airshow that featured both planes. Vulcan did Its usual low level fly past going into a steep climb with afterburners. A while later concorde did the same manoeuvre and you would have been hard pressed to tell them apart without seeing the plane.
