Some lovely pictures there

For flying type wildlife....
1) Pick the most scenic flowers
2) Apply a dab of super glue
3) Wait for nature to ensue
4) Take as long as you like to frame

This may be more difficult with larger animals. Possibly some quick set cement???

Thanks!

Haha, thats a pretty good idea that!
Not sure they would like it thouh! haha :D

Need to get up to moe race tracks and ge more used to taking the cars and stuff, got a good 300mm lense so can get some pretty good distance shots

That's where it all gets tricky

Stationary targets are relatively simple once you grasp depth of field etc etc

When an LMP1 car is hurtling by @ 200mph it all gets a bit tricky

Need to learn to blur the background and keep the car in focus , any tips?! haha

Well depth of field still works but since you're generally a reasonable distance from the target it's hard to get it good. And of course it's not proper "sports" motion blur

To achieve that I usually do something like :-

Manual focus on the track
Select AE mode
Stop the lens down until you hit something like 1/4 to 1/2 of the stock focal length number - say 1/80 or 1/125 for a 300 focal length
Engage motor drive
Wait for the prey
Pan as the car goes by and keep the motor drive cranking

Once you get the knack 1 in 10 might come out OK so you need big memory cards and lots of post event filtering.

Watching "Gatlin Gun" Boyack deploying this method is a sight to see. We're working on a water cooling setup for his lens

Learn to pan accurately so that the car stays in the same spot in the frame, then experiment with slower shutter speeds until you get the right amount of blur. Alternatively, photshop is your friend

Haha, yeah people keep saying about photoshop but i want to make it right out of the camera, if you cant do it right then why bother is my motto so the more i learn the better it is, more shutter speed alteration will be inputted then! :)

As Steve says, if you want the 'blurred background' type of shot you just have to adopt a percentage approach and be prepared to blaze away with a slow shutter speed and then ditch 98% of the frames. Pre-focus on manual is sometimes possible depending on circumstances. Don't be afraid to experiment. I usually take some banker shots at a race meeting with a moderately high shutter speed then start experimenting. Thank goodness for digital, in the old film days this was a lot more difficult and expensive!

The biggest difference I have found is having good lighting for motorsport shots. Pray to the sun gods and make sure your chosen position has the sun shining on the side of the car you are taking pics of. It is obvious but a poor location mat mean binning 100% of your shots instead of 98% :-)

For me a real challenge was taking pics at Le Mans during the night of the cars. Out of all of them I only got one that was half passable
Image

I found it much easier to cheat
1) throw tin taks on the track and wait for the accident
Image
2) move with the car to save panning and you can use a really slow shutter speed
Image

F1 was also pretty difficult mainly due to the safety barriers and distance from the track.

I love that photo of my Westfield. Best one I have.

It was even good enough to make it into the Westfield Club calendar!

Nice! Great shots and thanks for the advice there.

Went out to take one of the moon tonight, i have no tripod so it was all steady arm control to get a smooth shot so im pleased with it, after a small crop and then just adjusting out some of the noise i came out with the following image, pretty damn pleased with it and how much detail is there on the craters and detail on the moon.
