I don't know if there is a specific range for wrc models. I don't think they're necessarily in the 0 to 2500 range. If you're trying to identify whether a car is a wrc look for the additional equipment - antilag valve on the chargecooler is most obviois but is quite often removed. Take a look at the extreme top left of the turbo heatshield under the chargecooler. If you can see a large bolt head in a cutout in the sheild it's an atilag manifold ad hence a wrc model

Hi Mark, welcome to our little corner of GT-Four land.

The VIN/Chassis Plates for the UK spec and JDM ST205's respectively do not seem to be consecutively numbered so you can't rely on them for identification of the 2500 WRC homologation cars. Having said that, the early 1994 cars all seem to have a low VIN/Chassis number, as you might expect. If you use the features described by Steve above this is pretty well foolproof.

Thanks guys,
i was nosing about under the bonnet yesterday and spotted the three spay nozzles winking at me from the back of the bumper so i imedietly jumped on the 'extra goodies' link and she has all five of the extras! so i guessed she was a wrc but vin is out of the 2500 range so really wanted to confirm it was a genuine one rather than someone added bits to,
the vin is low but was sold to me as a straight 205, guess nobody knew what it was? lucky me!! :D

Generally there isnt a price difference between WRC and non-WRC ST205's. I've kept my JDM ST205WRC pretty well as it came off the production line apart from an enforced change of turbo by the previous owner when the original failed. Most owners have modded their Fours so its pretty unusual to find a standard one these days. Post up some pics when you get a chance.

The old 'WRC or not' page on the old ST205.net website used to list that the WRC's were 2500 of the first 5000 cars but not consecutively numbered.

Cheers :)

The no longer active "Russian site" http://www.toyota.mnc.ru/framno/STindex.html indicated that ST205 production started with VIN # ST205-0001001

^^^ from http://web.archive.org/web/20041115110640/toyota.mnc.ru/framno/ST205.html

The Toyota Electronic Parts Catalogue goes a step further... if you identify the part number for lets say the unique WRC exhaust manifold with anti lag pipes... it states that these are only for 3sgte 9402 > 9404 eg February, March, April 1994 ;)

Image

Using the EPC i have established that ST205-0004421 was the last car to be built in April 1994, and that ST205-0004422 was the first car off the production line in May 1994.
Whether it is factually correct to state that all WRC have a VIN # equal or less than ST205- 0004421 .... i dunno!

We used to have a WRC register on the OC with the range of actual WRC VIN numbers from owners cars. however some of that info has since been lost through site upgrades.

i found this using the "waybackmachine" the last archive dated as of 30th September 2007

i also don't know how chassis numbers are effected by jdm vs eu chassis numbers. Is there a jt164#00001 and a st205#00001 fer instance

By entering the UK / EU chassis number starting JT164... etc and pressing search, the EPC populates the frame number as ST205 0002031 , it also tells us the build date and paint colour code ;)

hence that to me suggests that there is only one 2031 frame number...

however what i don't understand is the relationship to the 700xxxx frame numbers listed on the Russian site.

im fairly sure the frame numbers where unique, if not and there were multiples of for example my number 5132 then there would be 10's of thousands of st205's roaming the streets, and i see to be honest, none on my daily driving. maybe 1 a week other than mine and thats only because he lives on my way to work

I've always assumed the last four digits are unique to the combined VIN and Chassis numbers.
