I hope this will have a simple solution but so far it has me stumped....I have this annoying misfire...initially it started cropping up when the car was cold and only between 2800 & 3400 RPM...its steadily been getting worse and now it happens below 4000rpm in all gears, in all conditions and at all speeds. Its getting so bad I couldnt keep up with Wiggy in his 185 yesterday
I have changed the plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rota arm. Checked the inlet temp sensors (all ok) There are no error codes been flagged up. I have reset the ECU, cleaned the injectors, I think that the turbo oil seals are starting to go, but other than that I cant see any problems......I`m stuck at what to try next!!!!!!

What about checking continuity between the block and the battery -ve terminal?

I'd also check the Throttle Position Sensor as these can go bad.

What grade of plugs are you running?

I guess my cars a cheap slutt and dosnt like expensive plugs???? Although I have no idea why!!! What would be the problem with iridium plugs?????

Nial,

AFAIK, there have been others that have had issues with Iridium plugs, tho I am not really sure why?

We always use standard NGK's at grade 7 and have never had any issues, I did try grade 6 on Penny and found that they tended to cause the car to cough and splutter when it was cold (certainly an issue in the winter!)

Although that doesn't really answer your question  I am glad to hear that all is ok now 8)

What grade were the plugs? If they were too cold they may have been fouled?

Also, what leads did you fit, stock ones? Magnecor?

I like the cheap copper plugs for several reasons, one of which is they are cheap! BKR7E have served us well for some time now...(on a relatively stock setup)

I dont know how to tell what grade they are...the box says -

Copper Core electrode 5kOhm Monolithic reistor, 5 rib design?????

number - IK24 5311

Total gibberish to me!!!!!

I fitted new standard leads as I have had too many problems in the past with Magnecour leads on other cars so tend to avoid them now.

The Iridium specs are here:

Seems from here that the IK24 is a heat range 8 in NGK terms.

It has been my experience that a stockish 205 running 1.2bar requires either a 6 or 7 heat range, the 8 seems to foul - maybe this is what has happened to you?

Maybe the IK22 would be a better choice of plug if you wanted to run the Denso Iridiums?

OK...thanks for that. Brilliant Info....Think I`ll just stick to normalish spark plugs for the time being....its cheaper.

I am running IK22's and have been for circa 4K miles / 8 months without problem or fouling. This is with the iffy Magnecors too.
