Post subject:  Some questions

Hi all, I'm looking at ecus for my st185 which is currently running the 205 ecu. I have found a ecu by emmerald called the k6 and I think it is reasonably priced. I have email the company to ask if it will fit straight on without having to buy extra bits, and they dont seem to know if it will. The reply I got back asked me what the speed input trigger pattern the car uses and also what coil system.

I have no idea what that means so would be greatfull if someone could shed some light for me, and if anyone has used or dealt with the k6.
Thanks in advance

Jon

Single coil with distributer. Igniter takes 5V pulses.

Trigger is variable reluctance, 24 tooth + single cam trigger.

Emerald ECU is pretty good spec for the money and Dave Walker (the mapper/part owner of Emerald) is a straight up bullshit free kind of guy which is nice.

My only possible concern is being the first person that I am aware of fitting an Emerald ECU to a GT4. If you know how to wire & map then it is a fair decision otherwise I assume you will be taking it to Dave Walker for fitting & mapping?

If this is not your intention I would seriously consider opting for an ECU that has been used before on a GT4 such as the Link ECU like CDB et al.

Alternatively a Power Fc (with rev 3 ECU repin of loom), MoTec (if you have money to burn).

I am all for people trying new things but you may hit headaches as you are a pioneer :-)

I would have to take it to dave if no one has used it before. I've sent him the above information but have not had response yet.
I havnt enough money for motec, and can't find any apexi or I would get one, hence the reason for looking at emmerald.

I can certainly recommend Dave Walker as he developed and mapped the Emerald ECU for my supercharged Elise. He has also fitted an Emerald to one of these turbo Hayabusa engined Caterham/Westfield type cars so he knows what to do with forced induction engines. He has a great setup but his rolling road is 2 wheel drive so he would need totake it elsewhere to map it.
If you aren't in a rush I would wait for an Apexi PFC to turn up as theres more info available from people om the GT4 forums.
My 2p :-)

I'm waiting to hear back from them. I've asked for a quote for the k6 ecu, installation, accessories as might need a map switching button of some sort, any additional harness, and the use of their dyno to map it.
When they get back to me I can work out how much the whole trip and setup will cost as may have to be overnighter.
