do you think there is any benefit in running same discs with 4pot calipers, the Jag XJS 6.0ltr V12 91-97 ran 284mm discs with 4 pot calipers..Obviously the discs will not fit hub diameter and PCD is way out, but the calipers with custom brackets could fit..And is it worth the expense?..Or am I being a proper nanna.. ![]() |

The XJS appears to use a similar (if not the same) caliper as the popular princess caliper. I would suggest that the XJS is seriously underbraked for any spirited use using only 284mm x 24mm discs. I started playing with a budget St205 caliper conversion based around a 295x26mm avensis disc, whilst this looked like it would work with some adjustments I would have wanted a thicker disc than the Avensis one to resist warping for track use. The supra came with a 296x32mm disc which would be about right for size but PCD and offset would probably be wrong! If I start reviewing the ST185 again I will probably end up with custom made Bells & Rotors of 298mm x 32mm with an offset to suit the ST205 caliper once bolted on to a ST185 hub. I think that it really depends on what your intended use for the car is Keith, as I am sure you are aware from your rallying days a simple pad upgrade can provide a dramatic increase in performance. IIRC andycaca picked up a custom brake setup using Volvo 240 calipers with bells & rotors and was happy with them for track. |

Keith, if your going to run same or similar size disc, would your efforts not be better spent looking into making a bracket for the 205 front calipers to fit ? You have first hand experience of the efficency of these and there are those working towards the same goal ![]() |

yes, but would want a caliper with similar disc sweep, in order to use all the contact surface..but maybe the issue of a 4pot caliper on a 25mm thick disc is not advisable.. ![]() |

My thoughts too, especially as I think Keith's brother has a set for sale? Keith, if you wanted to borrow a spare ST185 front hub for mock up - I have one with St205 caliper & avensis disk, std disk & St205 disk here. my progress so far:- http://www.gt4dc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2354 |

The supra also uses teh 4 pot St205 style caliper and seems to have a smaller pad swept area judging by teh pads I bought which ties up quite well witha 295mm disc. |
