Has anyone got these? Is there any real benefit/deficit to the oversize pullies? Fennies claim less power loss for the OS pullies, I'm wondering if the steering is heavier? What is the durability like? |

There will be some power saving. Underdriving ancillaries is an old way of getting free power I suspect you'll feel no difference in te steering weight. Consider how light it still feels with the car ticking over and manoeuvering. Once you get any sort of revs going the steering should remain exactly the same. Mores the ity really as, IMO, the steering could use a little more weight Durability, who knows. I believe a few people have been running these things since they came out but that's still only a year or so at best. I'm sure I remember a hoo-haa somewhere about the response when someone asked Fennies if they had any material hardness specs for the kit Don has a set I'm sure but since the engine and chassis of Stormy aren't co-located at the moment I'm not sure if he's actually driven with them ![]() |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the steering is too light. two_OH_five wrote: Durability, who knows. What sort of hoo-haa? A "How dare you question us, we are GT4 gods" type hoo-haa, or "Oh, sorry, we don't know but we'll get back to you" hoo-haa? |

Really? The steering in my Four is the heaviest/most feedback-some of any car I've driven. I think I'm gonna have to blag a drive in someone else's four one of these days since there is a mounting list of things that I want to compare and check if it's normal. Any volunteers? ![]() |

Same candyman, i drove my mates supra with 9 inch fronts yeasturday and the steering is maybe 4 times lighter than my car. My steering is really quite heavy tbh with loads of feedback from loose ground bumps etc. Took me about 4 months to get used to aswell. |

Every time I get in mine after driving something else I am shocked by the weight behind the steering. I know that heavy steering and responsive steering ain't necessarily one and the same, but imo the Four is great. But then I think the stock 205 seats are comfy so what do I know ![]() |

I'm with you on that Paul. When I drive a 2WD car I'm always surprised how light the steering feels in comparison to a Four. TBH I prefer a car with heavier steering at least it doesn't feel like the front end is about to let go. I also found the stock ST205 seats very comfy but not as supportive as the Recaros when hooning round the track ![]() |

Back on topic........as Steve says I do have a set of the alloy pulleys. Never got around to fitting them though as its an engine out job for the bottom one ![]() ![]() |

I have the full set of alloy pullies on mine, they have been on for about 12 months and not really notice any difference on the steering weight.I have also got the alloy crank pulley, but i can not give you any further advantages yet as sonic is still getting a heart transplant. I will post some pics of the new re-build on sonic soon.I am trying to re-build using a different intake system, I.E. a jun style intake manifold and 80mm throttle body( Thanks to the new girl friend xx). Have come across a few problems but i am overcoming them slowly. The new throttle body has not got any fixing for the idle speed control and the throttle cable hole is in a different position to OEM. Nothing some new brackets and tweaking can't solve. Fingers crossed it even fits in the engine bay now with the new manifold. on a slightly different note i have been in touch with a few people in the states and japan reference block strength. They seem to be running the stroker kits on the bored 87mm standard block with no major issues. They keep saying that the only real reason a block would crack is due to high temps (det)and incorrect mapping. I was running 98 degree's water and they all say i should be looking for more in the region of 88 degrees under load. I spoke to someone reference temps and they said it was fine that the fan was cutting in at 98 deg's. I think that was incorrect, so i now have a fan controller and 71 deg thermostat. This is all my own opinion and i can not swear by this info. Hutch |

I was concidering getting these for the sake of steering feel. I had a bent pulley, loose belt and leaky power steering pump due to an accident and the steering feel was good on my st185. The car had 215s on 17x7 wheels. The feedback was even better when I did not have powersteering, but its too much to drive for daily use. It was a fun canyon run though. Tired my arms out by the end. When I did my swap I installed the fresh st205 pump. The pump is far too strong for my likes. Currently I have 17x9s all around and 255s and even at low speed. I can turn the damn wheel with 2 fingers. I am kicking around the idea of removing the gtfour PS pump and using a mr2 electric PS pump. I will either put a dimmer switch on it to adjust the pumps strength or a on/ off switch to turn it off for racing. Removing the PS pulley from the system completely should free up a couple of horses as well. I am used to driving my 350z and it is conciderably harder to steer, but it has excellent feedback. |

If that works out you could try tying the dimmer rheostat into the car speed. So you plenty of asistance at low speeds when you are mnouvering but it takes the assistance away at higher speeds. Though now I think about it I'm not sure this is gonna work. After all I'm sure you all know that a car without power steering is very different from a car with failed power steering (big arms needed) |

The power gain for the lightweight pulleys will be small ![]() I would advise against fitting an aftermarket crank pulley. There is more to a crank pulley than meets the eye. Take one off and have a look - there is a rubber insert in the pulley. This I believe is to help absorb energy and help prevent "standing waves" from knocking out mains bearings... Where did I hear that Nascars commonly run stock crank pulleys? (primarily for the reason above?) |

Hi Guys, no hoo haa intended! Just won`t give away exact material specs as too many copier`s in the world today. Only sold gt4 ones for a year or so, no problems reported. Have been using same material for over 8 years on supercharged 4agze`s with no probs. Steering weight is unaffected. As for harmonic balancers, well thats a whole new can of worms, some agree and some disagree. TTE use alloy pulleys and so do C-one. I have been using one for a year now. HOO HAA ![]() Adrian |
