Evening all :),
Right now ecu's are like buses.., having obtained a pfc for the 185 i now have been offered a link g4 storm . While the pfc is pobably more than capable for my needs and pnp , the link appeals as a better option with multiple maps etc ? The benefit of having the link fitted and mapped by lyndon whilst the car is away having a heart transplant is i think also a bonus, retuns not only running but running safely :).
Thoughts on the comparison of ecu's ? Either will be controlling a 185 with fmic/stage1 tubby/1.1bar/540inj etc

Hi Clive,

I think it will come down to cost - is there a big difference and does the link come with a loom?

Either will do the job fine I would think. :)

:) The link fitted and mapped (with an adaptor loom) comes in less than the pfc with mapping :). If i sell the pfc, datalogit, ebc..its a freebie.

The link G4 is a better ECU in most aspects. AFAIK it can do full knock control if you get the extra knock sensor interface. The PFC has knock sensing built in but only gives a warning by flashing the engine light.

I know the G3 had a built in MAP sensor making it very attractive for 185 owners, but not certain about the G4 - a look on the website will probably give the answer.

Choice of ECU almost always comes down to knowing and having confidence in the mapper. The Apexi PFC is a different situation as it is a plug and play unit often described by JP as the ECU equivalent of 'my first Tonka truck'. I have one precisely for this reason. I know nothing about Link ECU's apart from the fact they are popular with the Scooby fraternity and I don't know anyone who maps them but if you do then it may be the correct decision for you.

My experience of the MoTeC M4 ECU in my ST205 was an eye opener. I hadn't realised quite how much time, effort and expense is required to even get close to the sort of performance and flexibility of the standard Toyota ECU. I think this would apply to any fully programmable ECU including the Link so its worth bearing in mind when you make your decision.

Not that i'm really clued up on all its functions but it does seem a no brainer tbh ? Don mapping will be road/real time rather than a roller, and yes it no doubt will require tweaking from time to time...decision made :). I dont know lyndon personally, have heard the name of course and that of rogue motorsport , his services come recommended though and as such i'm happy to trust that at this time. After all , its all very much trial and error in this environment is it not ?

I would ask for it to be mapped on the safe side unless you add the knock sensing and run a wideband AFR gauge. (same would apply to the PFC of course)
