Post subject:  what turbo?

Am running a turbo on my st185 from that was allegedly imported from the states... It's running about 1bar and has been reliable but want to get a garrett or similar turbo to replace it. It's a t3/4 no name thing and like that performance it gives, with boost coming at about 3k rpm. Would a standard garrett t3 (like that on a escort cossie) give similar performance? If not what would be recommended?

As Sirius suggests, Your choice of Turbo will be dependant on many things. A t3 turbo refers to the flange type, Not so much a turbo spec. Although frame size is linked. Is your current turbo on the standard manifold with an adaptor? And also supporting mods as mentioned are important too.

I have a stainless tubular manifold, 3" decat exhaust with standard airflow meter with a new filter and that's about it it really. I am looking to eventually run 300ish but need to fix all the sh*t the previous owner did like lowering it so I scrape on mcdonalds straws...
on a different subject, just had a new tranny put in (got the car back tuesday) and am finding it near impossible to select gears. the clutch pedal was having to be pushed all the way down to select and 4th was a bit crunchy but all of a sudden im having to use a lot of force to select gears! 3rd is okayish and it bounces (grinds) in reverse but won't go in

Re. gear problems, sounds like a dragging clutch.

If it's an aftermarket clutch, you may need more pedal travel.

Refer to:

But increase the pedal height figure. This will require adjustment of the pedal stop to allow more travel, plus adjusting the pushrod longer. Be careful to leave at least a couple of threads in the pushrod clevis, and if it comes right out, take the clevis off the pedal to get the thread back in or you'll end up crossthreading it.

Turbo wise, a standard st205 turbo is one of the best options for 300BHP.

If you have a manifold which goes direct to turbo, I'd hazzard a guess it's probably an XS power kit.
