Sorry but... UK cars didnt' have the rear fog switch from factory?

Mine was a question, as i can't understand what's the problem with the rear fog light...
I had the rear fog light in my oem rear lamps, and when i put the jdm, i just installed back my previous lights and the rear fog light was still there...

ok. what i was saying is that i dont have the fogs in my light cluster at the minute. it is a seperate part hanging off the bumper with an aftermarket switch in the cabin.
im am wanting to put a conversion so the fogs are in the cluster and has a stanard switch instead of the aftermarket one.

Now it's clearer...
so some cars arrived with no rear fog from factory... and this was really strange for me as here is a mandatory light till many decades.
Btw you are probably going to have the rear fog switch's and lamps' plugs, as usually the wiring loom is the same...

Resurecting an old thread as I need to do this on a car which has no rear fog light at the moment.

Is it better to go for a single rear fog light, and if so which side ?

Is there any reason not to just wire in with the front fog lights so it operates on the standard fog light switch ?

I'll take pics and document as I go so it can get posted as a how-to somewhere.

For the MOT you need a visual indication on the dash that the rear fog light is on. Not sure if you get one with the standard switch on a JDM. The conversions I've seen use a separate switch and illuminate a light in both rear light clusters.

The standard JDM one doesn't have the warning light. On mine I wired in place of the 'light fault' warning lamp, I CBA to pull the instrument cluster out on this one so I'll use a lamp on the dash.

Just answered my own question I think. From the MOT testers handbook:

With the rear fog lamp(s) switched on check
that a rear fog lamp:
a. is securely fitted to the centre or offside of
the vehicle
b. is working
c. is not obscured
d. is in good condition
e. shows light of the correct colour
f. is not adversely affected by the operation of
any other lamp.

also (re. last post)

1. With dipped head lamps and the ignition
switched on, check:
a. the presence, security and operation of the
switch
b. the presence and operation of the ‘tell-tale’

Neatest is wired into o/s outer (or both outers) brake light with a diode

Note when I did this on a 185 it required a diode in the original feed - never figured out why
