Yes I think so. The clearances must be bang on, and the crank round for the engine to live.

One point of note is that everything must be immaculatey clean when rebuilding - including all the oil ways - both in the block and crank or the engine will be toast...

Easier said than done!

Ditto

Again Kris has beaten me to the questions and answers also where the mains and thrust washers new.
I'll take an educated guess and say that the debris from your thrust washers failing took out your big ends. Why things failed will need to be answered to stop this happening again.
I believe, correct me if I’m wrong, but the ACL bearings only come in one size hence why I chose to go with the Mr T bearings in both big ends and mains as these come in several different sizes to get the oil clearances more accurate, did you do an engine flush after the rebuild? Dorris

I don’t recall the thrust washers being directional, without looking I’m sure the standard Toyota washers are the same on both sides and can be fitted either way around, its the top to bottom halves that are different with the locking tab only on one half. Dorris

Dorris' description matches my memory but what I can't remember is if there was a hard face an a bearing face.

In the pictures the thrust bearings don't look wide enough but there's so much damage it's impossible to tell really

That’s the bearing surface but aren’t they the same on the opposite side? Dorris

Its on all of them, without thrust washers the crank has walked and rods have all rubbed on sides of mains spinning main and rod bearings by the look of it... Pistons would more than likely be salvageable as its underside damage pitting, as long as sides and tops are ok and also no wear on pins once rods are off..
