right I have some good news some bad news and some rely bad new :(

good news :) after popping to seemy mate Dug today he did a few tweaks to the mapping on the car and now it idles fine :)

bad news :( Dug all so found out whey the engine keeps stalling, it is because the cranks thrust washer have warn:( and every time I use the clutch it is pushing the crank onto the block and making it stall. not too bad as this can be fixed with a new set of thrust bearing:) only £30 for Mr T

now the rely bad new :( on the back home from Dugs I did a gear change and then there was knocking from the bottom of the engine :( I’m just hoping it the thrust bearing failed and not that the big end has failed cos of the thrust bearing not keeping the oil pressure and staving the bearings of oil. So that’s it for me this year for doing any track time, its pobly going to need a fuul bottem end rebuild.

Worth pulling the sump off in situ and having a look at the bearing shells, thrust washer etc.

Had a similar problem on the engine that was my ST205 when I bought it and that started big end knock when pushing the clutch. I swapped engines but haven't stripped it yet. I suspect a thrust washer came out as I have about 3mm of endfloat on the crank.

so I striped the sump of to have a look and what I found was not good :( all of this was in the sump

Image
I then took of the crank bearing to see what the thrust bearings look like and found this
Image
Image
Image

as you can see it has worn away the edge of the bearing cap and killed the bearing and thrust bearings.
Image

I then had a look at the big end bearings things are not good :( number 2 and 4 big end bearing have gone and the crank is nakerd,
Image

and I can all so see where bits of metal have gone up and hit number 3 piston:( so it looks like it going to have to be a full strip down to see if the boars rare ok or if they need honing or even a reboar :(

Jeebus that's a hell of a mess :(

It looks like the centre cap is scrap as it looks like the register that holds the thrust has been milled off. That probably means the block is scrap as all the caps are block specific. Also I suspect that the block is equally as donald ducked as the end cap. You won't know til it's stripped or you get an endoscope/usb camera thing round the back of the crank.
I think even if it looks OK it's got to come out to flush the oilways out

Has it spun the big ends tooo? Looks like it :(

Not a nice set of pictures at all :(

Bugger.

The thrust washers need to be put in the correct way around..

The big end bearing looks like it has seen better days. Is the crank shaft damaged?
